Carmen Lai

Carmen is a Partner in the Real Estate and Banking Practice of the Firm.

Carmen graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of London in 2015 and went on to complete the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in 2016 where she achieved a Second Class Upper. She was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2017.

Carmen’s core practice areas encompass corporate transactions, real estate and banking. She regularly advises on a broad spectrum of matters including mergers and acquisitions, commercial contract drafting, secondary market property transactions as well as both retail and corporate banking facilities.

With over 8 years of experience, Carmen is known for her strong track record in delivering innovative and creative solutions tailored to meet her clients’ commercial and legal objectives.

Carmen has obtained the Executive Certificate in Islamic Finance conducted jointly by the Malaysian Bar and the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) on 3 and 4 March 2021.

• Advised on the structuring of payment gateway systems and e-Wallet solutions for one of Malaysia’s largest shopping mall operators.

• Advised on facility and security documentation for loan granted by a Malaysian government investment arm to various local companies in the creative industries.

• Advised on banking transaction and prepared documentation relating to retail and corporate banking facilities, including matters on restructuring and refinancing.

• Advised on real estate and property transactions and prepared documentation relating to commercial and residential property conveyance transactions, leases/tenancies and sale and leaseback scheme.

• Advised on succession planning, including drafting wills, obtaining probate/letters of administration at court, facilitating the transmission and transfer of property to beneficiaries.
